Support the Youth of the Neighborhood You Party In! TEDxAtlanta YoBoulevard! Summer of Possibility
Divas of House endeavors to not only empower through house music but, as our mission states, connect artist to community. We are proud supports and volunteers with the TEDxAtlanta initiative YoBoulevard! Summer of Possibility.
About the Boulevard Corridor & the Year of Boulevard
The Old Fourth Ward is one of intown Atlanta’s rapidly gentrifying neighborhoods…and one of its most historic. The very seat of the American civil rights movement, the Old Fourth Ward boasts Ebenezer Baptist Church and the Martin Luther King, Jr., Memorial. Nearby, many of the Old Fourth Ward’s factories are becoming lofts, businesses, restaurants and bars.
But through the middle of O4W runs Boulevard, a corridor infamous for its Section 8 housing and street drug sales. More than 600 kids, 19 or younger, live along the Boulevard corridor, and almost half of them live below the poverty line. We often drive through the Old Fourth Ward oblivious to these children, but they represent the future of the Old Fourth Ward, its bordering neighborhoods and the entire city of Atlanta.
Atlanta City Councilman Kwanza Hall kicked off 2012 with the “Year of Boulevard” initiative, aimed at turning the Boulevard corridor around. The TEDxAtlanta community has granted the Year of Boulevard project a wish, offering the 640 kids living in the Boulevard corridor the “Summer of Possibility.” That means this summer, the TEDxAtlanta community has agreed to fund summer-camp scholarships, assist in finding 20 internships, and offer entrepreneurial opportunities for the neighborhood’s eligible youths.
The “Summer of Possibility” will kickoff on May 19th on the Boulevard campus. Our desire is to create a summer of opportunity for the young people of the Boulevard corridor, to empower their lives and support their personal growth, not just this summer but also into the years ahead.

Through music and edu-TAINMEN T, Divas of House believes that boldly confronting an issue is the best way to address and find ways to remedy that issue. Music is a universal language and Divas of House dares to bring awareness to societal issues using house music and dance culture as the medium of choice.
